Sikkim India
This project involves the systematic study of documents from the Archives of the Sikkimese Royal Palace relating to the social history of Sikkim. Social history is understood as the study of society in a historical perspective, with a particular focus on the lives of ordinary people. Such studies will involve the relationship between the people, land owners and the state, with a focus on understanding these relationships from the point of view of the ordinary citizen. This will involve the study of taxation administration, localized dispute and Sikkimese law in a historical perspective noting the change to those systems over time.
This projects is being carried out by Dr Saul Mullard and Hissey Wongchuk, Research Asst. NIT
